Many small businesses fail because the business idea was faulty and this idea came forth from emotion rather than market research. The other two-thirds of this seminar is devoted to the mechanics of starting a business in Virginia, such as licenses, regulations, taxes, and possible legal structures. Comprehensive publications produced by local, state, and federal governments will be given to each attendee. Fee $25 Seminar 102Planning and Marketing Your Business: This seminar is designed for both start-up and existing small business owners. We believe that a business plan is essential to the success of any business and that all business owners can formulate such a plan if given proper instruction and assistance. The first part of this seminar is a step-by-step explanation of the basic components of a typical business plan. A plan for a hypothetical company is given as a training aid. This plan illustrates that content is much more important than length. The second part of this seminar focuses on the two most important parts of any business plan: Market Research and the Strategic Marketing plan. Both of these parts give credibility to the financial projections in the business plan. Attendees at this seminar are encouraged to discuss specific marketing issues for their business. Fee $25 Seminar 103Advertising and Promoting Your Business: This seminar is designed for both start-up and existing small business owners who desire an expanded discussion of this subject, which is covered briefly in Seminar 102. Of all the strategic decisions, which a small business owner must make, the advertising budget is one of the most difficult because there are so many options and cost variations. Mistakes can be costly in that valuable capital can be wasted or sales opportunities can be missed. This seminar also presents several means to promote your business at little or no cost. This seminar addresses several important financial issues which confront small business owners such as: Sources of capital; making financial projections; keeping score through financial reports; basic accounting practices; and establishing internal controls. To be successful, the owner should have a good knowledge of these financial issues. The purpose of this seminar is not to make attendees bookkeepers but to make them competent financial managers. After the evaluation is completed, the primary issues will be identified and the seminar will then focus on the tasks which must be performed to fulfill an internet sales initiative. This seminar will provide the foundation from which the small business owner can proceed with an internet sales initiative.
